The Red Spruce often grown along the edge of streams and bogs, where it can reach sizes of 20 meters. This tree is about 6 meters tall. |

Bark is dark gray to brown, inner bark reddish brown. |

Needles are similar to those of the Black Spruce but are .5 to 0.7 of an inch long. New growth twigs have only a few short, brown hairs. |
